The Transfer Madness of 2014

This summer has been one transfer market window to remember, and it is not even over. Many big names in the world of football have found new homes. Here are the top three transfers of the 2014 summer transfer window so far.

The first player on this list, is the biggest transfer of the summer Luis Suarez. Mind the biting incident in the world cup that dominated the news linked with Luis Suarez. While that was happening, Luis Suarez made a switch from Liverpool to FC Barcelona. The most expensive player Barcelona has ever purchased. The 27 year old made his move after Barcelona paid the 3rd highest transfer payment of 75 million pounds (95 million euros). This move gives Barcelona arguably the most dangerous attacking front three. Having Neymar, and Messi, adding Suarez is just adding another dimension to the already potent Barcelona attack. Barcelona have made many moves this transfer market, a sense of an overhaul of their squad with many veterans leaving. With big names such as Suarez, and former Sevilla captain Ivan Rakitic, Barcelona are moving in the right direction once again.

The second player is the world cup star James Rodriguez. It feels as Real Madrid didn’t want to just sit and watch their bitter rivals make a move for one of the best players in the world.  Real Madrid bag their golden boy for a cool 80 million euros, the fourth most expensive transfer ever. In Galacticos fashion, Real Madrid now have had five of these most expensive transfer of all time. Rodriguez is moving clubs, after Monaco bought him from Porto for 45 million euros in 2013. James Rodriguez performed well all season for the French club, and showed the quality of a 45 million euro player. He received Ligue 1 team of the year honors, and was voted his club’s best player. His season was great, but his world cup performance was one for the history books. The young Colombian scored a tournament high six goals, and dished out three assist. Not only did he perform well, but his country reaped the benefits, and made to the quarter finals of the tournament for the first time in their football history. Upon moving to his new club, James received the heavy pressured number 10 shirt. The expectation are high for the 23 year old wonder kid.

The third and final transfer is Alexis Sanchez. Now Alexis Sanchez isn’t a huge transfer in terms of spending by one club, but in terms of football ability, this is huge. Barcelona’s ex number nine moves from the Camp Nou to the Emirates on a reported 30 million euro transfer. This move was made before to fund the huge transfer fee of Luis Suarez. After that transaction happened between both clubs, Arsenal have finally signed a legitimate forward. After their most expensive transfer last year in Real Madrid’s playmaker Mesut Özil, Arsenal fans were hoping for Arsene Wenger to sign another world class player this summer to pair with their German playmaker. He did that in signing the Chilean who showed his world class ability in the world cup. Mesut Özil finally gets the world class forward many pundits said he was missing last season. Arsenal boast one of the fastest midfields in the Premier League, and many folks believe they are not done yet. Many fans believe Arsene Wenger will buy one or two more players, and build upon their FA Cup win of last year.
