Danny Green was the last person expected to be the frontrunner for the NBA Finals MVP after Game 5. In fact, if you wanted to bet on him before the Finals started, the only option was ‘Any Other Spur’ at 30-1 odds. Last week in three games, Green averaged a stellar 20.3 points per game and shot 66.7% from beyond the arc. In Game 5 he broke Ray Allen’s record of 23 three pointers by sinking six shots, reaching a total of 25 for the NBA Finals.
If the Spurs win either Game 6 or Game 7 in Miami, then Green’s performance will be remembered for more than just the record. On the series he is shooting 65.8% from beyond the arc compared to 56.7% on field goals. Green has scored 90 points in the Finals, 75 of them threes. Green could easily establish a long standing record if the series goes to seven. However, he would probably trade the record for a NBA Championship in a heartbeat. He would become a part of a select list of players that have won a NCAA Championship and a NBA Title.
