Biggest Summer Transfers

Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente to Juventus

If it was hard to knock Juventus from the top of Serie A, the task just got a whole lot harder for opposing teams. Tevez and Llorente join “The Old Lady”, a huge addition to Juventus’ striking force. In Carlos Tevez they get a player who scored 17 goals last season, leading all scorers at Manchester City. His move to Juventus comes after City came second to Manchester United last year in the Premier League, and after his fallout with his boss at the time Roberto Mancini. Juventus bought Tevez for 10 million euros. Fernando Llorente, the tall Spanish striker joins Juventus on a free transfer from Atletico Bilbao. Llorente was linked with a move to Italy for quite some time. Llorente scored 118 goals at his 9 year stint at Bilbao. One of Spain’s most productive strikers, Fernando Llorente tags up with Carlos Tevez to make Juventus not just a stellar defensive team, but a lethal attacking team as well.

AS Monaco made huge transfer news this summer. They landed what was one of Europe’s most wanted players. The Colombian hitman Radamel Falcao joined Monaco for a reported estimated 50 million pound transfer move from Atletico Madrid. Falcao was linked with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, and PSG. But the newly promoted French league club bought “El Tigre”. Falcao was a scoring machine for Madrid. He netted 70 goals in 90 appearances for the club. At age 27, Monaco did not hesitate to buy the striker’s services. Big spending Monaco did not buy Falcao without buying him some world class teammates. They went on to buy one of Portugal’s best midfielders in Joao Moutinho, and one Europe’s up and rising stars in James Rodriguez for an estimated 60 million. Joao and James were being scouted by the big names in Europe, but Monaco beat them all at the end. Monaco paid around 25 million for Joao, and close to 40 million for Rodriguez. All former Porto men will be wearing the Monaco shirt coming up this season.

Mario Gotze

The 21 year old player will be playing his football for Bayern Munich. It was surprising when the news hit that Mario Gotze was leaving Borussia Dortmund for their rivals. All this news started circulating before the Champions League Final between both teams. Gotze was part of a young trio that caused teams headaches. Lewandowski, Marco Reus, and Gotze were set to be the future of Dortmund football. But, Bayern activated Gotze buyout clause of 37 million euros to buy him. The move was confirmed shortly, and Dortmund fans were shocked. Not only did Dortmund lose a rising star in Gotze, they lost a potential world class midfielder. Bayern got a great player for their already talented treble winning squad. With Pep Guardiola coming in as the new manager, Gotze fits perfect to his plan as a false nine option, or a Thomas Muller substitute in some games.

Stevan Jovetic, Fernandinho, and Jesus Navas to Manchester City

As previously said, City came up short of the Premier League crown, they also lost to Wigan in the FA Cup final, and had a poor showing in the group stages of the Champions League. But with their almost unlimited resources from their Qatari owners, City can buy themselves world class players. They bought three of them this summer. They went on to buy Fernandinho from Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk. Fernandinho was a key player in Shaktar’s dominance in the Ukrainian league. Fernandinho is the ideal box to box midfielder City has been asking for. City bought him for 30 million, and he is expected to contribute from the get go. Since Carlos Tevez left, Manchester City were in need of a striker. Stevan Jovetic was linked to Arsenal, and it looked like that is where he was going. But, City dropped around 22-24 million pounds to grab the forward from Montenegro. Manchester City weren’t done just yet, they added the services of a dangerous winger. Jesus Navas has been giving Spanish defenses headaches throughout his career, he will move his game to England. City splashed 15 million pounds for the 27 year old Spanish international. All these signings seem to be part of City’s current plans. They all are expected to contribute right away.
