A Look Back at The 2006 McDonalds All American Game

The 2006 McDonald’s All American game happened at Viejas Arena and featured many future NBA players. Here is a brief summary of every player from the game.

Darrell Arthur went to Kansas where he won a national championship. He currently plays for the Denver Nuggets.

D.J. Augustin went to Texas where he was a great player. He won the Cousy award made the cover of Sports Illustrated. The First Team All-American was drafted ninth overall and was named to the All-Rookie second team. He now plays for the Chicago Bulls.

Chase Budinger was the local of the game. He was the best high school small forward in the country and won McDonald’s MVP. He went to the University of Arizona where he won Pac 10 Freshman of the Year and he led the Wildcats in scoring in an NCAA Tournament game. He currently plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Demond Carter played four years at Baylor. They went to the Elite 8 in his senior year.

Earl Clark went to Louisville where he was their leading scorer in an NCAA Tournament game. He now plays with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Sherron Collins had a prolific basketball career at Kansas. During his time there he won the Olson award, was the Big 12 Tournament MVP, a first and second team All-American, coverboy for Sports Illustrated, and he led the team in scoring in an NCAA Tournament game on the way to a national championship. He has played with the Charlotte Bobcats.

Mike Conley has improved every year it seems like. He was a teammate of Greg Oden in high school and college. At Ohio St. Conley was a Big 10 Tournament MVP. He was drafted fourth overall by the Memphis Grizzlies and last season he was the points leader in a Western Conference Finals game.

Daequan Cook was also with Conley and Oden at Ohio St. He was drafted 21st overall and won a three point shootout during All-Star weekend.

Javaris Crittenton was the best high school shooting guard in the country. He doesn’t play in the NBA anymore because of legal trouble.

Kevin Durant is one of the top players in the NBA right now. In high school he was ranked as the number two player overall. He led the McDonalds game in scoring and was the MVP of that game as well as the Jordan Classic. Durant went to Texas where he won a lot of awards as a freshman. The best award was the Naismith trophy which is equivalent to the Heisman. He was the second overall pick and has had a great NBA career so far. He has led the league in scoring, been named First Team All-NBA and has taken the Thunder to the NBA Finals. In the Olympics he led USA in scoring as they won gold. He has been on Sports Illustrated as well as college basketball and NBA video game covers. Behind Lebron James there is no doubt that Durant is the best player in the NBA.

Wayne Ellington finished out his college career at North Carolina on top. Not only did the Tar Heels win the national championship, but Wayne led the entire NCAA Tournament in points and was the MVP of the Final Four. He currently plays for the Dallas Mavericks.

Spencer Hawes was rated as the sixth best player of the class. He was drafted tenth overall and is currently playing for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Gerald Henderson was a pretty good player at Duke. He led them in scoring in an NCAA Tournament game and he was on the cover of Sports Illustrated. He currently plays for the Charlotte Bobcats.

James Keefe never did much at UCLA.

Ty Lawson was on the team with Ellington that won the national championship at North Carolina. Lawson was the top rated high school point guard in the country. At North Carolina he won the Cousy award given to the nation’s top point guard. He led North Carolina in points in a Final Four game. He was a second team all american and ACC Player of the Year. Lawson has been on the cover of Sports Illustrated and he currently plays for the Denver Nuggets.

Brook Lopez joins Kevin Durant as the only other member of this game to become a NBA All-Star. Brook was drafted tenth overall out of Stanford after being a top ten high school recruit and leading Stanford in scoring in an NCAA Tournament game. Brook now plays for the Brooklyn Nets.

Robin Lopez, Brook’s twin brother, also played with Brook at Stanford. Robin was a first round pick and now plays for the Portland Trail Blazers.

Vernon Macklin played in the Final Four at Georgetown before transferring to Florida. He was a second round draft pick.

Greg Oden was the top high school player of the class. In college he was the Big 10 Freshman of the Year and he led Ohio St. in scoring in a Final Four game. Oden who was selected number one overall won the NABC Defensive Player of the Year Award, the Newell, he was named a second team all american and he made the cover of a college basketball video game. He hasn’t played very much in his career because of injuries and is currently on the Miami Heat.

Scottie Reynolds became a great player at Villanova. He ended his career there as a first team all american after leading them in scoring in a NCAA Tournament game. During his freshman year, Reynolds was Big East Freshman of the year. He has also been on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
